Cinnamon Sweet Potato Snack Fries with Yogurt Dip

Ingredients

  • 1 medium sweet potato, peeled
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup plain whole milk yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon water

Method & Instructions

  1. 1

Wash hands and heat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

Peel the sweet potato and cut into thick sticks about 1/2 inch wide and 2 to 3 inches long so they soften well in the oven.

  3. 3

Place sweet potato sticks in a bowl. Add oil and cinnamon and stir until every piece looks lightly coated.

  4. 4

Spread sticks in a single layer on the lined baking sheet with space between pieces. Crowding leads to steaming instead of baking.

  5. 5

    Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes.

  6. 6

Flip each stick with tongs or a spatula and bake for another 8 to 10 minutes until edges look light golden and centers feel soft when pressed with tongs.

  7. 7

Remove tray from the oven and let fries cool on the tray for 5 to 10 minutes until warm.

  8. 8

While fries cool, stir yogurt and water in a small bowl. The dip should look smooth and slightly thinner than yogurt alone.

  9. 9

Place a small portion of fries in a toddler bowl and serve yogurt dip on the side.

  10. 10

For newer eaters, cut each fry into shorter pieces or thinner sticks so length stays under 2 inches.

  11. 11

IMPORTANT: Press fry pieces between your fingers to confirm a soft interior and test temperature on your wrist before serving.
